Highlights of these requirements for SPHM practices in a hospital include:
A SPHM policy that will achieve elimination of manual handling, transferring and repositioning of all or most of a patient’s weight, except in emergency circumstances
Patient assessment for needs of SPHM.
Educational materials for patients and their families on the hospital’s SPHM programs.
All employees involved in patient care handling are to be trained and demonstrate competence on SPHM policies, equipment and devices before implementation, annually, and as changes are made to the program.
