WHAT IS A SAGUARO

  • A saguaro is a tpe of cactus
  • Found naturally only in the Sonoran desert
  • Can grow up to 40 feet tall

ADAPTATIONS

  • The saguaro has many adaptions
  • Adaptations include storing water, root growth and fruit to spread seeds

STORING WATER

  • To survive in the desert the saguaro stores water
  • Water stored in spines inside of the cactus
  • Can hold up to a tpn of wster at a time

ROOTS

  • To collect more water the saguaro's roots grow outward
  • This is different from other plants because most plants have roots that grow downward

SPIKES

  • The saguaro is covered in spikes to protect it from animals eating it
  • Spikes also prevent most birds from nesting in it, but some desert birds have adapted

FRUIT

  • The saguaro soreads its seeds by producing bright fruit
  • Animals such as bats find the fruit appealing, eat it and transfer the seeds through their droppings

FUN FACTS

  • The saguaro is the tallest cactus in the U.S.A
  • Since the saguaro is only found in the Sanoran Desert it is very rare
