LEGEND

According to legend, a lion went into St. Jerome's monastery in Bethlehem. The other monks in the monastery ran away in fear, but Jerome calmly looked at the lion's paw and removed a large thorn. After the lion became his companion. The other monks felt like the lion should work for his food like how they did. Jerome decided to have the lion to guard the monastery's donkey. But, one day the lion neglected his duty, and thieves stole the donkey. After seeing how the donkey was missing, the monks accused the lion of eating it then forcing the lion to do the donkey's work. Even if the lion is innocent, the lion obeyed the order without complaint. A few day had passes, the lion saw the donkey in a caravan passing by the monastery and brought it back to the monks to prove that he is innocence.

A PRAYER OF SAINT JEROME FOR CHRIST'S MERCY

O Lord, show Your mercy to me and gladden my heart. I am like the man on the way to Jericho who was overtaken by robbers, wounded and left for dead. O Good Samaritan, come to my aid. I am like the sheep that went astray. O Good Shepherd, seek me out and bring me home in accord with Your will. Let me dwell in Your house all the days of my life and praise You for ever and ever with those who are there. Amen.
