History
Saint Patrick, whose real name is Maewyn Succat, was born at 387 in Kilpatrick, Scotland.

After six years in Ireland, he learned to speak in Celtic. Soon after, he escaped to France, where he embraced clerical life and was ordained a priest.

However, his trip did not end here, but he returned with 46 years to Ireland to evangelize its inhabitants for three decades. Finally, he died on March 17, 461.

The call exhorted him to preach Catholicism throughout the island, was instructing the word of God to the thousands of pagans of Viking stock.

The first thing he did was to build a church. Its popularity was such that the current cathedral of Dublin was erected in that place precisely, because there was a well that Saint Patrick used to baptize the converts.

Saint Patrick and Ireland are related to the three-leaf clover. Patricio used it to explain the Holy Trinity. The green color of the clover, besides being the characteristic color of Ireland.

In Ireland, San Patricio has been celebrated as a religious festival, lasting four days the city dresses in green and the streets are flooded with music and dancing. One of the most important attractions is the thematic parade that takes place in the streets of Dublin

CLOTHING AND CUSTOMS

The dress is also a key point

if you are going to celebrate San Patricio you cannot stop wearing a green garment and use a clover in your lapel. Why? It is said that Maewyn Succat, who was a priest of Scottish origin, used to place a clover in his clothes as a metaphor to explain the mystery of the Holy Trinity.

Then his parishioners adopted this custom and began to use clovers during their religious services. The color green, on the other hand, represents spring and joy

Typical food

As a typical dish they eat beef and cabbage and drink large amounts of green beer

  • Ham cooked with cabbage.
  • Potato cake known as boxty.
  • Blood sausage.
  • Shepherd's Pie.
  • Sausages with mash of colcannon (mashed potatoes and cabbage).
  • Grilled chicken.
  • Potato bread.
