WHAT WAS SALEM WITCH TRIALS

  • It was a series of hearings and prosecutions of people that were accused of being witches
  • The one that were coming up with the accusation were the little girls of the town
  • A bunch of girls who were bored and had nothing to do
  • Took place from February 1692- May 1693

PEOPLE

  • Abigail Willian-Most active accuser and 1st teen Who started feeling pinches
  • Sarah Good- Was one of the 1st accused; accused of her reputation
  • Sarah Osborne-accused because puritans thought she was selfish
  • Tituba-accused for teaching the girls about demons and fortune telling
  • All womens named expect abigail were outcasts

CAUSES OF WITCHCRAFT ORDEAL

  • Teen Boredom (work of the devil)
  • Strongly believing in Satan and "Invisible World"
  • Old feuds between neighbor
  • Priest were unable to be accused

EFFECTS OF WITCHCRAFT ORDEAL

  • Boredom=Teens founds somthing to doing by accusing people as witches
  • Strong Belief of Satan= People toke the accusations very serious
  • Feuds w/ neighbor= Parents had their kids accusing people the didnt like
  • Reverends accused= A Reverend got accused and they knew teens were lying

WAYS OF IDENTIFYING A WITCH

  • A witch were unable to recite The Lords Prayer
  • Having a poppets shaped like a human
  • Books of Palmistry and horoscopes
  • Pots of ointments
  • If the accused touched the accuser and stoped their fit

END OF WITCH TRIALS

  • People stopped believing because any one was geting hanged
  • Abigail ran away and so did some other girls
  • George Burroughs(a minister) recited the Lords Prayer during his hanging
  • Devoted people of the church were hanged which also made doubts
