HISTORY

  • the Face of War was painted in 1940
  • Painting was created due to three year long spanish civil war
  • The Spanish Civil War affected the Spaniards severely due to their goal to become a Republic
  • The outcome was a total dictatorship
  • Dali painted the Face of War to pay homage to Spain

FACTS

  • Salvador's painting is a way of expressing his feelings towards war
  • Seen in the painting are repetitive faces of death and decay
  • This shows that, to Salvador, all he thought about war was death

MORE FACTS!

  • Another noticeable feature is the faces in the eyes and the mouth
  • The faces show death and despair
  • Because the faces are in the eyes and mouth, Dali wanted to show that The Face of War only sees and speaks death

AND YET EVEN MORE FACTS!

  • Another symbol is in the bottom right corner
  • Dali painted the hand to show the definiton of war using art instead of words
  • Dali felt pain and destructions of war mentally and physically

WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE BUT FACTS!!!

  • Dali shows his prospective of war by painting a corpse face who screams death and suffering
  • As some may not know, it is not just the suffering the face is going through, but the realization of the face stuck in a world with war surrounding it
  • Dali painted The Face of War to fight against the spanish civil war because all it brings is Pain, death, suffering, and despair
