For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God

Common Misconception:
Without the work of the Holy Spirit, people think that good works can contribute to their salvation.

Paul's Thoughts

  • We take nothing with us to our redemption
  • Good works result from having been gifted with salvation
  • "By grace you have been saved through faith"

Grace by Definition-
Excludes that human merit contributes to our standing before our perfect Creator

Grace by Definition-
Admits our inability to help ourselves and relies solely on another for salvation

Works by Definition-
Actively involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose

Works by Definition-
A person can achieve through their efforts. This isn't true for salvation, therefore Grace must be the key.

What about Faith?

  • It is something we exercise
  • Paul mentions salvation, grace, and faith
  • We put our faith in Jesus Christ
  • But through grace, God gives us this faith

What about Faith?

  • Not saved by Grace alone
  • Saved by Grace through Faith
  • Must have Faith in God's Grace

A Final Thought-
"Without faith, God's grace is wasted, and without grace, faith is powerless"
