Tabriz, Ajerbaijan

  • graduated high school
  • began teaching in Azar Shahr district
  • ~30 miles southwest of Tabriz
  • taught for 11 years

fascinated with
Azeri folk tales

first book published 1965
collection of these tales
translated into Persian|Farsi

dedicated his career to education
and social justice

he fought against
state-controlled
textbooks and curriculum

system was outdated

completely alien to Iranian children: rural children specifically

some saw him as dangerous

who dares question the government?

his efforts to question the government caused some to question his death

drowned in 1968
