EARLY YEARS

  • Born on March 9 of 1910
  • Died at the age of 70 on January 23 1981
  • Made his first composition at the age of seven
  • He learned the piano at the ripe age of six.
  • He did not want to participate in football, instead, he wanted to learn music.

Barber wasn’t a sporty type. He loved music and when his mother recommended football, he wrote her a letter. The letter basically said that he did not want to participate in this game, and he was very sorry. The letter also states that Barber is worrying about this subject so much that it makes him mad. (not very)

  • At the time of Barber's death, this composition had been recorded.
  • Barber spent time at a U.S. Air Force base so that he could take part in flight training and battle simulations. He was given four months to write the piece with the understanding that the army would receive all of the royalties forever.
