WHAT IS A SAMURAI?

  • The samurai was a highly trained and skilled fighter from Japan.
  • There are no amateur Samurais.
  • Extremely loyal to their masters.
  • Believe in the philosophy of death before dishonor.
  • Samurai means "Those who serve"

SAMURAI VS SOCIETY

  • Samurai Warriors were from a higher class in society.
  • Samurais were considered to be superior over normal soldiers.
  • Samurais armor covered there face so they looked inhuman.

DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR

  • Samurai Warriors lived by the philosophy of behavior called Bushido
  • Bushido is the code that a samurai must kill themself before they shame themselves.

SAMURAI RULE

  • Wealthy landowners hired samurais to protect their land.
  • These landowners went against the government rule.
  • Minamoto and Taira, eventually challenged the central government and battled each other for supremacy over the entire country
  • There was 700 years of samurai rule around 1185.

WEAPONS

  • Katana (sword)
  • Wakizashi (second shorter sword.
  • Tanto (dagger)
  • Kama (sickle)
  • Samurai armor (very decorative covered whole body.

BATTLE TACTICS

  • Samurais adapted to the topography they were fighting on.
  • In many cases highly trained archers were used.
  • Occassionally samurais would run into their enemies with there katanas overhead.

Samurais were very skilled warriors who were the ultimate fighters. Samurais had deadly weapons and full body armor. They were very good at adapting to their surroundings and defeated their enemies nine times out of ten. I believe the samurai warriors could either be of equal match or defeat any other warrior.

APPEARANCE

Samurais wore full body armor.
