Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna

Before President

• Santa Anna declared himself dictator in 1836
• He dropped the constitution and replaced it with the 7 laws which eliminated state rule
• He also put the take no prisoners policy in place
• This sparked the Texas Revolution

Major Battles

• Santa Anna lead 6,000 men on an attack on the Alamo
• Within 13 days the battle was over
• The few surviviors were exicuted thus the "take no prisiners polocy"
• This loss caused even more Texans to fight against Santa Anna

BATTLE OF SAN JACINTO

• At the battle of San Jacinto it was a blood bath for the Mexicans
• Santa Anna ran off in the middle of the battle
• A search was put in place to track down Santa Anna
• They found him dressed as a commoner and when he came back all his men saw him they yelled "el presidente"

FUN FACTS

• Santa Anna had his leg dug up, paraded around the city with it and placed it on a monument for all to see
• He was banished from Mexico on 3 separate occasions
• He came back for the 3rd time and died in poverty
• There is now a city in texas named Santa Anna
