  • Discovered by Galileo Galeli in 1655
  • Saturn is named after the the Roman God of agriculture
  • Saturn Has 7 thin flat rings around it
  • Saturn Has no solid surface, it's just a ball of gas and a solid inner core
  • Saturn has the lowest density of all the planets in the solar system

WHAT'S IN SATURN?

  • Saturn is a gas giant made up of mostly hydrogen and helium
  • 96.3% of molecular hydrogen and 3.25% helium
  • It has 63 moons
  • Has a hot solid inner core of iron and rocky material
  • Next is a layer of highly compressed, liquid metallic hydrogen followed by a region of vicious hydrogen and helium

SATURNS RINGS!

  • 99.9% composed of water ice chunks
  • Discovered by Christian Huygens in 1655
  • The rings area believed to be peices of comets, asteroids or shatters moons that broke up

FACTS

  • A 100 pound object on earth is 116 pounds on Saturn
  • It takes 29 earth years for Saturn to orbit around the sun
  • Has 30 known Satellites around Saturn
  • Saturn's atmosphere comprises of helium and hydrogen
  • Was first visited by pioneer 11 in 1997
