PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Save the Penguins!

BY: CARLY MCALPIN & EMILY GODDARD

CONDUCTION

IS THE TRANSFER OF HEAT BY MOLECULES BUMPING INTO ONE ANOTHER

CONVECTION

IS THE TRANSFER OF ENERGY THROUGH THE FLOW OF MATERIAL

RADIATION

TRANSFER OF ENERGY THROUGH WAVES AND SPACE

LAYERS OF THE ATMOSPHERE

(FROM INNER TO OUTER): TROPOSPHERE, STRATOSPHERE, MESOSPHERE, THERMOSPHERE, EXOSHPERE)

OZONE LAYER

LAYER IN THE STRATOSPHERE THAT ABSORBS THE SUN'S UV RAYS

WEATHER VS CLIMATE

WEATHER CHANGES DRAMATICALLY FROM DAY TO DAY. CLIMATE IS A STURDY PREDICTION OF THE TEMPERATURE OVER THE PERIOD OF SEVERAL YEARS.

CLIMATE CHANGE: AFFECTING PENGUINS

CLIMATE MELTS THE ICE WHERE THEY LIVE, WHICH MAKES IT HARDER TO RAISE THIER CHICKS, WHICH LOWERS THE POPULATION.

ADAPTATIONS

PENGUINS' FEATHERS ARE ADAPTED FOR SWIMMING AND KEEPING WARM & DRY.

BUILDING OF THE STRUCTURE

(I WAS GETTING MAD BECAUSE THE STICK WOULDN'T BREAK IN HALF)

BUILDING (CONTINUED)

(WE HAD THE WALLS MOSTLY BUILT THEN)

COMPLETED DWELLING

FINISHED AT LAST!!!

TESTING THE IGLOO (AKA PENGUIN STRUCTURE)

IT BETTER STAY COLD IN THERE!

CONCLUSION:

OUR DESIGN WORKED PRETTY WELL, BUT IT HAD A FEW PROBLEMS. WE WOULD PUT MORE INSULATION TO MAKE IT COLDER. WE WERE LIMITED IN OUR TIME, SO WE DIDN'T DO AS WELL.
