PHISHING DEFINITION

  • Phishing is the fraudulent attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

HOW TO IDENTITY THEM

  • Will often have the name 'My Bank'.
  • Hover mouse over any links in the message.
  • Check for spelling errors.
  • Beware of urgent and threatening messages in the subject line.
  • 'Your account has been hacked!' | 'Your membership has expired.'

  • Be alert to the fact that scams exist.
  • Don't open suspicious emails, apps, popups.

  • Recover any stolen identity.
  • Report scams to authorities.
