SANDY HOOK MASSACRE

On December 14th, 2012; A man entered Sandy Hook Elementary in Newton, Connecticut, killing 27 people, including 20 children.

WHAT HAPPENED

• Around 9:30am gun shots were heard
• The shooter Adam Lanza walked into the school in the kindergarten and first grade area
• Walking into one classroom, killing all 14 students plus a substitute and walking into another killing the teacher and 6 other students before killing himself

After mourning the tragedy that happened in Newton, Connecticut, different levels of Government came together to find away to prevent school shootings.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

• Held memorials for the ones lost
• Joined in on fundraisers and protest for armed guns
• Local police departments and swat teams defend schools in the city and in the metroplex

STATE GOVERNMENT

• Helping schools evacuate
• Arms the schools with professional officers and trained to use a weapon
• Governor speeches about school security and building the school back together

NATIONAL/FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

• Closing background check loopholes to keep guns out of dangerous hands
• Increasing mental health services
• Banning military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines and games
• Recommending 1 consular for every 250 students thought out the nation

I think that the government tried very hard to involve themselves to the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. It's difficult to change something like this because it can happen at anytime to anyone, it's just the matter being prepared for it. I think that the mayor, governor, and president speeches had an impact on the way citizens looked at the situation and will help spread awareness.
