What is one way that sources of pollution are classified?

How they enter a body of water.

A point source is a specific source of pollution that can be identified. When pollution enters a body go water it is usually hard to identify.

A non point source is a widely spread source of pollution that is difficult to link to a specific source of origin. Most pollution that enters water has a non point source.

What are three sources of preventing water pollution?

Human wastes, industrial wastes, and chemical runoff.
They are the main causes of water pollution.

Pesticide

A chemical intended to kill insects and other organisms that damage crops.
Pesticides go into water and dissolve, ultimately polluting the water.

Pollutant

A pollutant is a substance that causes pollution.

When coal and gasoline is burned, the gasses sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide are released in the atmosphere. Thus creating Acid Rain.

Acid Rain is rain or another form of precipitation that is more acidic than normal, caused by the release of molecules of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide into the air.

What are the two parts to water pollution?

Cleaning up existing problems, and preventing new ones are the two parts to ending water pollution.

You can recycle, don't dump trash in rivers which feed into the lakes, and oceans. Also ships can have better protection against oil spills.
