DISCOVERY OF EBOLA

  • The first case of Ebola was recorded in 1976
  • Its name comes from the river "Congo's Ebola River"
  • This river flows past Yambaku, a village in Africa
  • Scientists think the consumption of infected bushmeat is the cause
  • Bushmeat is the flesh of the bones of non-domesticated mammals

TRANSMISSION OF EBOLA

  • Ebola is not an airborne disease
  • An ex. of airborne diseases are the flu & a cold
  • Ebola can only be transmitted by bodily fluids
  • Ex. of this is a person touching an open wound on the infected person
  • Another ex. is a person using a needle that was used by a victim

SYMPTOMS OF EBOLA

  • Symptoms can appear 2-21 days after exposure
  • In most cases victims have seen first signs on days 8-10
  • Ex. fever, muscle aches, weakness, sore throat and headaches.
  • Long term ex. vomiting, diarrhea and a body rash
  • After the long term result your internal organs will start hemorrhaging
