ARISTARCHUS

  • Aristarchus of Samos was an Ancient Greek astronomer and mathematician.
  • Greek philosopher who theorized the radical view that earth and planets revolve around the sun.
  • Aristarchus also applied modern geometric methods to measuring the size of celestial bodies.
  • Although his angular measurements were inaccurate, his geometric procedure was correct.

CLAUDIUS PTOLEMY

  • is a Greco-Roman writer ofAlexandria, know as mathematician, astronomer, geographer, astrologer, and poet
  • He propounded the geocentric theory that prevailed for 1400 years.
  • Motions of the sun, moon, and planets;Ptolemy again extended the observations and conclusions of Hipparchus.
  • Ptolemy's astronomical work was enshrined in his great book.

COPERNICUS

KEPLER

  • Johannesburg Kepler was a German mathematician, astronomer, and astrologer.
  • Kepler formulated the correct laws of planetary motion.
  • This eventually archiving a place in the development of astronomy.
  • Kepler believed firmly in the Copernican System. The orbit of mars. Is very difficult.
  • He discovered that the earth and planets travel about the sun in elliptical orbits.

GALILEO

  • Galileo Gealileli. Was a physicist, mathematican, astronomer, and philosopher who played a big role in scientific rev.
  • Contributions to the sciences of motion, astronomy, strength of materials, and the dev. Of scientific method.
  • His insistence that the book of nature was written in the language of mathematics changed natural philosophy.
