CHAPTER 7 LESSON 1

THE THREE STATES OF MATTER

SOLID,LIQUID, AND GAS

SOLID

  • Solid is a state of matter
  • Solids are books, tables, houses and trees
  • Solid has its own shape
  • Solid also has mass and volume

LIQUID

  • Liquid is another state of matter
  • Liquid is oil, milk, and raindrops
  • Liquid take the shape of its container
  • Liquid has mass,volume

GAS

  • The last state of matter is gas
  • Gas is air in tires, balloons, air in basketball, and in a room
  • Gas has no shape of its own
  • Gas doesn't volume or mass

MELTING POINT

MELTING POINT

  • Melting point of a substance depends on pressure
  • Melting point changes solid to a liquid
  • For example ice melting in a hot day

FREEZING POINT

FREEZING POINT

  • Freezing point is liquid to a solid
  • For an example water is turning into a solid in a snowy day
  • Freezing point is a substance is the same as the melting point

BOILING POINT

BOILING POINT

  • Boiling point is Liquid rapidly changes to a gas
  • For an example boiling water in the stove
  • Boiling point is the temperature at which vapor pressure of a liquid becomes equal to the pressure of the gas above the liquid

EVAPORATION

EVAPORATION

  • During evaporation the fastest particles on a surface of the liquid escapes into the air and became a gas
  • Evaporation is where some puts water into a plant and the water goes to the air and it's called evaporation and that water goes to the cloud and the water stays there and when it fills up it causes to rain

SUBLIMATION

SUBLIMATION

  • A sublimation is when dry ice is changing into a fog or vapor
  • Solid that changes to a gas
  • Sublimation is when you put dry ice into a cup and fog/vapor comes out of the water

CHEMICAL CHANGE

something you can't get back

CHEMICAL CHANGE

  • Gummy bear and vinegar
  • Once you leave the gummy bear in a container with vinegar in it the gummy bear would melt

CHEMICAL CHANGE

  • Chocolate and sun
  • Once you leave chocolate in the sun the chocolate would melt and would never make the chocolate to it's shape

PHYSICAL CHANGE

something that nothing happens

Physical CHANGE

  • Sand and Legos
  • Once you put Legos and sand nothing would happen to the Lego and sand,
