  • Most destructive mass movements
  • They happen suddenly
  • They destroy everything in their path

ROCK FALLS

  • Rock fall- a group of loose rocks that fall down a steep slope
  • They range from small rock to large boulders

Landslides
🔹Landslide- The sudden movement of rock and soil down a slope
🔸Slump- It occurs when material moves down slope over a curved surface.
🔹Most common type of landslides.

  • Hevy rains
  • Deforestation
  • Construction on unstable slopes
  • Earthquakes

Mudflow
Mudflow- A flow of mud or rock and soil mixed with a lot of water
-This can occur from
🔷 Drought followed by a large rainstorm
🔷 Deforestation
🔷 Removal of ground

LAHARS

  • Lahars- mudflows of volcanic orgin
  • Formed when volcanic eruptions quickly melt ice and snow
  • They can travle up to 80 km/h
