Substance: a material of a particular kind
Example: Gold

Mixture: something made by combining two or more ingredients
Example: Soup

Element:one of the basic substances that are made of atoms of only one kind and that cannot be separated by ordinary chemical means into simpler substances
Example: Nickel

Compound: Combining something
Example: Water

Solution: an act or the process by which a solid, liquid, or gaseous substance is homogeneously mixed with a liquid or sometimes a gas or solid
Example: Sugar in water

Colloid:2 a : a substance that consists of particles dispersed throughout another substance which are too small for resolution with an ordinary light microscope but are incapable of passing through a semipermeable membrane
Example: Milk

Suspension:the state of a substance when its particles are mixed with but undissolved in a fluid or solid
Example: soil and water

Homogenous:of the same or a similar kind or nature
Example: peanut butter

Heterogenous: made up of parts that are different
Example: pepperoni pizza
