  • Contracts and sends food to the stomach

STOMACH STRUCTURE

  • Hollow muscular pouch

Muscle Function
Uses muscles and acids to break down foods into smaller pieces

Small Intestine Structure
Tube lined with villi

Small Intestine function
Absorbs nutrients into the blood and chemically digests food
*most digestion occurs here

Liver Structure
Large heavy triangle shaped organ

Liver function
Aids in digesting by producing chemicals that break down food

Large Intestine function
Tube that contracts and pushes waste toward the anus

Large Intestine structure
Helps get rid of waste and absorbs water back in the blood
