Science Fiction (Utopia/Dystopia)

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Science Fiction (Utopia/Dystopia)

by Kevin Lu

The reason why i wanted to this genre

is because I am a person who likes to create visions of societies.
Okay so um yeah

I like to envision our society's values and beliefs

in the future and create an entirely different world using those visions.

To see these amazing worlds come to life in literature and movies is

astounding and something I enjoy reading and watching in my free time.

Therefore, choosing this genre would appeal to my tastes

and also let me see through the eyes of other people's ideas about society.

Science fiction (more specifically utopia/dystopia) is...

  • A sub-genre that explores political and social ideas.
  • It creates an ideal and interesting world for the setting of the novel.
  • These types of created societies can possibly exist in the future.
  • The society tends to have different values from today.
  • The governments runs differently.

It can also...

  • Take place in the future (usually).
  • Have different social/political structures.
  • Usually precede the events of political conflict.
  • Revolve specifically around the life of one character.
  • Show different variations of poor, middle class and rich.

Though very unlikely, our future society can possibly end up somewhat like

what we read in these books.

One of the books i Will read

IS...

DIVERGENT

by Veronica Roth

When i first heard about this book, i was quite intrigued.

I was interested in how the society was divided based upon personality.

to respond to that type of system of Government and rules.

I wanted to see how society would respond if they were forced

And the way the story transitions certainly hooks you into the world.

So far, the book's been fantastic in my opinion. The plot is well-thought.

I can't wait to finish the book and read the entire trilogy.

I honestly think that the book is powerful and absolutely amazing.

The movie comes out exactly one month from now,

and I can't wait to see how the books translates onto the big screen.

Another book i will read for this genre study

IS...

Mockingjay

by Suzanne Collins (Author of The Hunger Games trilogy)

I want to completely finish the trilogy, and this project gives me time

to FINALLY finish the book up.

I do feel that it can't be compared to the first book.

So far, the book has been absolutely divine, however,

The media source i will view

will be...

The first movie

THE HUNGER GAMES

Even though i saw catching fire,

I NEVER SAW THE 1ST MOVIE!

I do however think that Catching Fire will be better judging from reviews.

I want to view this because I want to compare the first and second movie.

This genre study will give me the oppurtunity

to finally view the first movie and compare and contrast the two.

TO SCIENCE FICTION (UTOPIA/DYSTOPIA)

PERSONAL LINKS

My mind is always full of thoughts about society.

To see through the eyes of other people's vision is entertaining.

I am also a person who worries about the future constantly.

Reading these types of books is sort of therapeutic and calming in a way.

Though I will Never be able to live in these fantasies,

I will at least be able to explore these worlds in my mind while reading.

I can closely relate to how they feel in these situations of despair.

Even though the characters I read about are in completely different times,

This explains why i love this genre and why i want to

explore and analyze more of the content and ideas that inspire these tales.

Thanks for watching me ramble about Utopias.

And thanks for the A+ Mrs. Ennin! :)
