PRESENTATION OUTLINE
HUMAN GENETIC DISORDER COLOR BLINDNESS
Definition of color blindness
a sex-linked inherited condition where there is an inability to distinguish colours. Very few women are colour blind, but up to 10% of all men have some degree of colour blindness. The most common is red-green colour blindness. The second most common is blue-yellow.
Inheritance: sex-linked (X chromosome).
Physical condition
If just one pigment is missing, the eye might have trouble seeing certain colors. Red-green colorblindness where red and green might look the same is the most common form of colorblindness, followed by blue-yellow colorblindness. Patients who have blue-yellow colorblindness almost always have red and green colorblindness too.
Treatment
There is currently no treatment for inherited colour blindness. Colour filters or contact lenses can be used in some situations to enhance the brightness between some colours and these are occasionally used in the workplace, but many colour blind people find these actually confuse them further rather than help.
