MATTER

-All matter is made with Atoms
-Anything that takes up space and has mass

ATOM

-The smallest unit of a chemical element.

ELEMENT

-Each element is made of only one kind of atom
- There are about 120 elements

PERIODIC TABLE OF ELEMENTS

- a list of all of the chemical elements that exist in the universe (that have been discovered by humans so far)
- Categorizes, organizes elements according to the properties of their atoms

MOLECULE

- Formed when 2 or more atoms join together
- These may be 2 of the same atoms to 2 different atoms

COMPOUND

-Formed when 2 or more DIFFERENT atoms are joined together
- Note: All compounds are also molecules, but not all molecules are compounds

COEFFICIENT

- multiply the number of molecules you are making!

Example: 2 H2O =4 atoms hydrogen, 2 atoms oxygen

SUBSCRIPTS

-tell you how many “atoms” of each element for that molecule
Example: H2 - 2 atoms hydrogen
Examples H2O= 2 atoms hydrogen, 1 atom oxygen

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

- is the process in which plants make their own food

Cellular Respiration

- The process by which the cells of ALL LIVING THINGS break apart glucose to release energy
