EVERYTHING IS MADE OF MATTER

  • Animals,humans,food,even desk,and chairs are made of matter
  • Matter is made up of small particles called atoms.
  • A million atoms next to each other would be the thickness of a strand of hair that's how small they are.
  • Scientists use a scanning tunneling microscope to look at atoms.

WHATS IN A SOLID?

  • In a solid particles are tightly packed together.
  • These particles can vibrate but they can't move around each other.
  • Solids keep their shape.

WHATS IN A LIQUID ?

  • Particles in a liquid are packed closely together with no regular pattern.
  • In a liquid the particles can move past each other.
  • A liquid takes the shape of its container.

  • Particles in a gas are separated and in no pattern.
  • Particles move freely and quickly around each other.
  • It takes the shape of its container but it will escape with out a lid
