Matter

Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. All matter is made up of atoms.

The smallest unit of a chemical element.

One kind of material made of the same type of atom. There are 120 elements.

Periodic Table

An organized list of all the elements that have been discovered by humans. Categories organize the elements according to the atom’s properties.

Molecule

When two or more atoms join together. The two or more atoms can be the same or different.

Compound

Subscripts

Tell you how many atoms of each element are in that molecule.
