Step 2: Form a Hypothesis

A prediction and has not yet been proven or disproven

Step 3: Designing a controlled experiment.

  • Variables are the factors that can be changed in an experiment.
  • A Controlled Experiment is when only one variable is changed.
  • All other variables in an experiment are unchanged or controlled.

Independent  Variable

Is the variable changed by the scientist.

Dependent Variable

The one observed during the experiment.

Step 4: Recording and Analyzing results

Does the data support or not support your hypothesis?

Step 5: Drawing Conclusions

The evidence from the experiment is used to determine if the hypothesis is proven or disproven

Forming a Theory- A theory may be formed after the hypothesis has been tested many times and is supported by much evidence
