What is scoliosis?

  • abnormal lateral curvature of the spine.

Causes of Scoliosis?

  • abnormal nerves
  • injury (later in life)
  • bone abnormality

Symptoms

  • Uneven shoulders
  • Uneven waist
  • One hip is higher than the other.

Tests and Diagnosis

  • Cannot be determined pre-birth.
  • Neurological testing
  • X-Rays
  • MRI

Treatment

  • large back braces
  • wheelchair, canes, and walkers
  • surgery can decrease the curve.

Prevention

  • there is no way to prevent scoliosis.
