SCOLIOSIS IS ALSO CATEGORIZED INTO 3 AGE GROUPS:

  • Infantile (birth-3 y/o)
  • Juvenile (3-9 y/o)
  • Adolescent (10-18 y/o)

  • Curve to the right
  • Usually in thoracic spine
  • Most common
  • Makes a C or S shape

LEVOSCOLIOSIS

  • Curve to left
  • Common in lumbar spine

★ thoracic scoliosis is a curve in the middle of the spine (most common)
☆lumbar scoliosis is in the lower back

IDIOPATHIC SCOLIOSIS
☆ no definite cause for it
★ most common
CONGENITAL SCOLIOSIS
☆ takes place in utero
★ v rare (like 1 in 10,000)
☆ spine didn't form correctly

NEUROMUSCULAR SCOLIOSIS
★ develops in people who can't walk due to neuromuscular conditions
☆like cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy
★ also called myopathic scoliosis
DEGENERATIVE SCOLIOSIS
☆ adult scoliosis
