Sea Turtles in Trouble

Become Aware of Their Danger

There are many sea turtles immigrating into the ocean where there are already sea turtles and not enough resources.

These additional sea turtles caused sea turtles to develop niches.

The sea turtles started eating different things.

Some sea turtles eat mainly jellyfish, but others eat seaweed and algae.

There is a new predator, the shark, entering the ocean where sea turtles live. The sea turtles have never seen a shark before.

The starfish has developed a mutualistic relationship with the sea turtle. The starfish attaches to the sea turtle's shell.

The starfish gets a meal of algae, and their color on the shell will scare away predators of the sea turtle, like the shark.

Many years ago sea turtles immigrated to another part of the ocean because of food shortage.

Their jaws adapted to be stronger, so they could eat different food, like the crab.

An invasive species, the European Green Crab, has entered an area of the ocean were sea turtles live.

These crabs eat clams. Some sea turtles also eat clams.

Instead of competing with the crabs the sea turtles stop eating clams. They have other food sources.

Sea turtles can be negatively effected by hurricanes.

The strong winds blow away the eggs and kill them before they can hatch.

This destruction of sea turtle eggs will cause the sea turtle population to lower.

Humans can cause great harm to sea turtles by taking their eggs from their nest to eat and sell.

Sea turtles are becoming endangered. If this continues we will drive the sea turtles to extinction.

We need to help the sea turtles. We can start by not disturbing their nest, so they can hatch.

We can also put up signs on beaches near and around sea turtle nest to give additional help.

We need to get the supplies for the signs and people to put the signs up from somewhere. This is where you come in.

With your money we will be able to put up the signs and protect the sea turtle nests.

If we do these things it will help the sea turtles live longer lives.
