  • A general-purpose language
  • Provided the building blocks for many other programming languages
  • Typically used for implementing operating systems or embedded applications.
  • Developed by Dennis Ritchie

Appeared in 1974

  • A special-purpose language fro managing data
  • Commonly used for the "Query" function, in order to search for information
  • Designed by Donald Chamberlain and Raymond Boyce

C++

Appeared in 1983

  • An intermediate-level language originally designed to improve upon C
  • Powers major software such as Firefox as well as Adobe programs
  • Used to develop systems software, application software, video games, etc
  • Designed by Bjarne Stroustrup

Objective-c

Appeared in 1983

  • General-purpose programming language
  • Powers Apple's OS X and iOS
  • Used to create iPhone apps
  • In high demand since the popularization of the iPhone 
  • Developed by Apple

Conclusion

I chose each of the languages on this list because they all have been significant in the evolution of programming languages
