Highlights of an event presentation by Jim Thompson Fabrics, hosted by Trammell Gagné showroom, Seattle Design Center, and the lines they represent to the Interior Design/Decor & Architecture Trade.

Jennifer West, Kravet & J. Garner Home showrooms are also featured. In addition to fabrics, wall-coverings, carpets, rugs, furniture (upholstered & case goods), lighting, art & accessories are available.

The events are educational: to understand the intrinsic value & natural beauty of handcrafted custom home furnishings.

TG Showroom Entrance

This showroom event, Jim Thompson Presents: "Dreams" by David Rockwell, features fabrics from the collection, a collaboration between Jim Thompson Fabrics + Rockwell Group.

Fabrics, trims & wall-coverings from the No. 9 Thompson, Studio B & Gert Voorjans collections were available to preview.

Linen Twill & Ajouré Trim cover a chair

Tim Johnson, Director of Sales & Marketing, Jim Thompson Fabrics, explained the difference between "calendared" linen & "glazed" linen in look & feel.

Samples allow designers to preview & touch the “hand” of fabrics: the texture, weight & fiber quality of collections.

Notice the fabric on the right, "Garden Party" is the Linen Twill featured in the collection brochure on the chair upholstery!

This Linen is "calendared" giving it a flatter dimension. Designers in attendance were given samples from the collection to share with clients.

LUXURIOUS SILKS

Tim also shared each silk cocoon contains 1-1/2 miles of fiber, & goes through a 5 week life-cycle.

The yellow color of the cocoons designates the Thai mulberry leaves that the silkworms eat.

These silks are hand-crafted by local farmers who spin the silk filaments (threads) over an open fire with a wooden spoon.

RAW SILK

The WIDTH & Pattern REPEATS help determine yardage

Jim Thompson silk fabrics are hand-crafted, and handwoven on looms that were 14", 40", 48" and now are 54" wide.

Of these, the Ikats, (like the "Clio" pattern pictured) are the most difficult to weave.

Choosing hand-crafted goods supports the native Thai cultural traditions of silk spinning, dyeing & weaving.
