DESCRIPTION

  • Sebaceous glands are oil glands.

  • Sebum is a lubricant that keeps the skin soft and moist and prevents the hair from becoming brittle.
  • Sebum contains chemicals that kill bacteria.
  • You don't have oil on your feet or hands.
The skin tends to become oiler during adolescence.
If a sebaceous glands duct becomes blocked by sebum a whitehead appears on the skins surface.
Acne is an active infection of the sebaceous glands accompanied by pimples on the skin.
Seborrhea or the "cradle cap" in infants, is caused by the over activity of the sebaceous glands.
