From Sediment to Rock.

  • sediment is small, solid pieces of material that come from rocks or living
  • Most sedimentary rocks are formed through a series of processes:
  • erosion, Deposition, compaction, cementation.
  • erosion: particles carried away by water, or wind.
  • Deposition: particles deposited as loosely packed sediement

FROM SEDIMENT TO ROCK cont....

  • Compaction: particles squeezed together under pressure
  • Cementation: particles glued together as solutions harden.

Types of Sedimentary rocks

  • 3 types of sedimentary rocks.
  • Clastic, organic, chemical rocks.
  • clastic formed when fragments squeezed together
  • organic forms when remains are deposited in think layers.
  • Chemical forms when minerals dissolved in a crystallize.

uSE OF SEDIMENTARY ROCKS

  • SANDSTONES AND LIMESTONE ARE USED IN BUILDINGS.
  • THEY ARE SOFT ENOUGH TO CUT EASILY INTO SLABS.
  • BUILDERS USE SANDSTONE AND LIMESTONE ON WALLS ON BUILDINGS
  • LIMESTONE IS USED IN MAKING STEEL AND CEMENT.
