- Her full name is Selena Quintanilla-Pérez
- She was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas
- She is an American singer/songwriter/model/actress/spokesperson

- She started singing at a very young age
- Became the lead singer of her father’s band, “Selena y Los Dinos” at age 10

- Her father took her out of school when she was in eighth grade to pursue a singing career
- When her father did this, Selena’s teacher threatened to report her to the Texas Board of Education

- That album was at the number one position on the U.S. Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for 19 weeks straight
