EVALUATION RESULTS

  • Frequency Varied
  • Others had too many matches
  • Overall frequency was 0.0007
  • Common as join, case, book, ...
The frequency 0.07% may not seem high! But it is! 0.07% is also the frequency of the words fact, join, speak, case, and off in the English language.

The source for frequency information analogies was the New General Service List (NGSL) at newgeneralservicelist.org.

EVALUATION DETAILS

  • Frequency drastically varied
  • Some roots had too many matches
  • Hard to determine if match matched root definition
  • Overall frequency was higher than expected
  • Which Caesar's English word do you think was the most common?
In Swiss Family Robinson, the frequency of different Caesar's English words varied. Some roots had too many matches that weren't really roots and stems. For example: the root se had many matches of words that end in -se, but having nothing to do with separating. This made it hard to determine if it matched the root definition. The overall frequency was higher than expected because it equalled the frequency of many commonly used words.

OTHER BOOKS CAESARS ENGLISH DISTRIBUTION

  • Animal Farm: 0.0030, 106 *
  • The Giver: 0.0022, 106 *
  • The Outsiders: 0.0097, 409
  • Dracula: 0.00733, 1176
  • *: Without major stems/roots
Animal Farm had a frequency of 0.3% without the major roots like anim and com. This was much higher than in Swiss Family Robinson even without the major roots because it was a shorter book.
In The Giver, the frequency was 0.22% and also had com as a major root.
In The Outsiders, 0.97 was the frequency, it was very high because it was a short book and it included major stems that might not even match the root.
Dracula also had a high frequency (0.7%) because of some of the same reasons,

SUMMARIES

  • Animal Farm
  • The Giver
  • The Outsiders
  • Dracula
Animal Farm:
In Manor Farm, ol' Major is dying, but has an elaborate speech. The Speech inspires the other animals on the farm to rebel the humans and establish an Animal Farm. The success of the Animal Farm was a huge breakthrough. Animal farm was a utopia for animals, or was it?

The Giver:
Jonas lives in a community where there is no hunger, war, or suffering, neither love, color, nor music. As Jonas is assigned as Receiver of Memory, he must uncover the secrets of the past and why the community has to be this way.

The Outsiders Summary
In Ponyboy's neighborhood there are the greasers and the Socs. The greasers are the "bad boys" and the Socs are the rich kids. When Ponyboy, and Johnny Cade get in a fight, Johnny saves Ponyboy by killing a Soc, but then the two kids run away. This story has a good wrap-up because you figure out what book Ponyboy writes for school.
