  • The most popular growing crop is peanuts
  • Senegal is a democratic country

FOOD

  • Most or their breakfast involves bread such as baguettes or rolls
  • Lunch involves mostly rice and fish
  • Dinner involves rice, meat, vegetables and beans

RELIGION AND TRADITIONS

  • Senegal's main religion is Muslim
  • They have a tradition called simbe or false lion ceremony where people dress up as lions and chase around people that do not have tickets

HOLIDAYS

  • January 1st = New Year's Day
  • February 4th = prophet Mohammed's birthday
  • April 4th = Independence Day
  • April 9th = Easter Monday
  • May 1st = Labor Day
  • May 28th = whit Monday

SCHOOL

  • 92.5 percent or people in Senegal go to school
  • They make sure that all students get 10 years or education especially girls and young children
  • But many people in Senegal do not get very good education due to the lack of resources and trained teachers

SPORTS AND FREE TIME

  • The national sport is wrestling but the most popular is soccer
  • In Senegal there is many things to do such as fishing, racing, diving, and surfing.

WEATHER

  • The weather is mostly tropical all year
  • November to May is uninterrupted sunshine
  • June to October is a short rainy season.

  • Senegal is on Africa's west coast
  • Senegal is mostly plains and small hills the plains are made mostly of sand or flood plains

  • Senegal is about the size of South Dakota
  • After school the kids don't speak French they speak Qur'an or Muslim scripture
  • It was one of the main auction sites in the slave era
  • The motto for Senegal when translated in to English is one people, one goal, one faith
  • Senegal has a giant statue made of bronze an 45 feet tall that was made during the new African era called the African Renaissance monument.
