Description: Flooding is an overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry.

Cause:floods are caused by heavy rains,when waves come on shore,when snow melts too fast,and when dams or levees break.

Environmental Damages:excessive water fills normally dry creeks or river beds along earth currently flowing creeks and river causing rapid rises of water in a short amount of time.

Damages to Humans

  • drowning
  • floods kill more people each year than tornadoes,hurricanes,and lightning
  • Low spots in houses such as under paths,underground,parking garages and basements.

Flooding usually occurs when long periods of rainfall occur.

Flooding is most likely to occur where river flood plains and coastal areas are.

Flooding happens often so for safety precautions you should avoid building in a floodplain,construct barriers,seal walls, and listen to the radio or television for information
