PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HOW TORNADOES FORM AND THERE DEFINITION

  • Tornadoes are a circle shape that has winds going around really fast.
  • Tornadoes need warm moist air from the Gulf of Mexico and cool dry air from Canada.

HOW CAN THEY OCCUR

  • They need low level moisture and a "trigger" to lift the moist air. Then the air rises and it becomes saturated. After that it will continue and to rise and will become a thunderstorm.
  • If the atmosphere is unstable then the temperature decreases rapidly.
  • Tornadoes can appear anywhere in the US but usually appears in South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

HOW DO THE TORNADOES GET MEASURED, DETECTED, OR FORECAST?

  • Tornadoes usually gets measured from a scale called Fujita Scale. Fujita Scale is a scale that estimates it's wind speed.
  • They detect the tornadoes from a radar they have and then forecast it in the news.

WHAT KIND OF DAMAGE CAN TORNADOES DO?

  • It depends on the category.
  • F1 tornadoes can peel surface of the roofs, mobile houses pushed off foundations or overturned, and moving auto's blown off.
  • F2 tornadoes makes roof torn off frame houses, mobile homes destroyed, cars lifted off ground, etc.
  • F3 tornadoes makes roof and some walls torn off well-made houses, trains overturned, and etc.
  • F4 tornadoes makes well-made houses weak, and cars thrown.
  • F5 makes strong house swept away, trees debarked, and etc.

HOW TO BE SAFE FROM TORNADOES.

  • To be safe you have to go to the lowest room of your house like a basement.
  • If you don't have one then you go to a closet, bathroom, or a small room with no windows.

WHAT YOU SHOULD PREPARE FOR A TORNADO

  • One is when they say there is a tornado watch it means that conditions are right for a tornado.
  • Second is if there's a tornado warning then it means they detected one on there radar or they seen it.
  • So when there's a tornado warning then you should have a room with medication cause hospital is probably going to be filled.
  • Second is simple food because most of your food will probably going to be destroyed.
  • Third is clothes to protect you or keep you warm.
  • Fourth is copy important papers just in case you lose them and you don't want to.
  • Last is batteries with a flashlight just in case the building collapse and it's all dark.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO STUDY SEVERE WEATHERS.

  • Because to know when something bad is going to happen and you can prepare for when it comes.

IS IT A SERIOUS THREAT TO WISCONSIN?

  • No because Wisconsin is too far from the Gulf of Mexico and Wisconsin doesn't have a lot of flat ground for tornadoes to be created.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • A tornado in Oklahoma destroyed a whole motel and later the people found the motel sign in Arkansas. Tornadoes winds are the fastest winds on earth.
  • The deadliest tornado was in 1925 and it swept through three states and killed 689 people and injured about 2,000 people.
