They where put on the Nile river in Egypt to get water easier, safer, and faster.

That's obvious. So for all the people saying the shadoof is not important just remember your religion/technology/person/turning point would not have happened if not for water (which the shadoof gives)

This makes the lifting and dropping way easier for the person using it.
