Causes of Shaken Baby Syndrome
Shaken baby syndrome is brain injury that occurs when someone shakes a baby or throws a baby against an object

CAUSES OF SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME

  • When a baby is shaken or thrown, the head twists or whips back and forth
  • This can cause tears in brain tissue, blood vessels, and nerves.
  • The child's brain slams against the skull
  • Causes bleeding and swelling in the brain
  • .

SYMPTOMS

  • Extreme irritability
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Decreased appetite
  • No smiling or vocalization
  • Seizures

TREATMENT

  • Carefully place baby on its back
  • Perform chest compressions
  • No medicine that treats Shaken Baby Syndrome
  • Sometimes have to go into surgery to treat bleeding in brain
  • 25% of children die while 60% sustain lifelong injuries
