  • When relating large pieces of information
  • These were probably an early version of books or pamphlets

BRONZE VESSELS

WAS A MARK OF OWNERSHIP OR A SHORT INSCRIPTION GIVING THE ANCESTOR

SOCIAL CLASSES

  • Kings and queens are the rulers of the land
  • Nobles were second in classes, lived in large homes and palaces
  • Warriors were knights in bronze armor who went to battle in horse-drawn chariots
  • Farmers were really peasants, and lived in nearby villages. Their homes were very simple
  • Merchants and craftsman didn't produce food and we're not part of the nobility, they were outside the class structure.

  • They was ruled by kings
  • They created social classes
  • Rich people had big houses
  • Poor people like peasants had small house outside the walls
  • Which were 30 feet high and 65 feet thick

ANCESTOR WORSHIP

  • Ancient china people believed that there were a number of gods
  • They could not talk to to these gods directly
  • The only way that they could ask the gods to bring them good fortune was by going through ancestors

MANDATE HEAVEN

  • The Mandate of Heaven is based on four principles
  • 1. The right to rule is granted by heaven
  • 2. There is only one heaven therefore there can be only one ruler
  • 3. The right to rule is based on the virtue of the ruler
  • 4. The right to rule Is not limited to one dynasty

GODS

  • Their were only gods of nature
  • Their most powerful god was sky god
  • They believed in many gods,

CELEBRATIONS

  • Each year they celebrated the spring festival
  • Several villages would gather for the festival
  • It was during shang times that the spring festival evolved
  • Into what we call today Chinese New Year
