CAN A REDSHIFT CHANGE TO A BLUESHIFT?

I chose this because I had trouble understanding red and blue shifts. I also thought shifts were pretty cool.

Redshifts

• A redshift is a shift toward the red end of the electromagnetic spectrum.
• An example is a police car speeding past you on the street, as the car gets farther from you, the sound of the siren fades, it shifts away.

BLUESHIFTS

• A blueshift is a decrease in wavelength, and an increase in frequency.
• Say you see the same police car, but its coming back, as it gets closer, the siren gets louder.

CAN RED TURN TO BLUE?

• They can change, as an object goes to the red end, it can come back towards the blue end.
• When the police car speeds by you, the sound of the siren fades as it goes father, but the car makes a u turn and comes back.
