  • Founder is Abraham
  • Deity came to Abraham and promised him a nation
  • He would have to leave his home and family though

ORIGINS OF SHINTO

  • Has been around since the 6th century B.C.E.
  • Had no founder or official texts
  • Was a collection of Native belifs and Mythology

DIFFUSION OF JUDAISM

  • Moses led the Israelites from Egypt into Canaan
  • Rome conquered and transported Jews to Europe
  • Some scattered and fled to Asia and parts of Africa.
  • Would travel to America during prosecution in WWII

DIFFUSION OF JAPAN

  • Ideas borrowed from Korea and China
  • Practiced exclusively in Japan

BELIEFS AND PRACTICES OF JUDAISM

  • Monotheistic
  • Covenant between G-d and the Jewish people
  • Follow the Halakah

BELIFS AND PRATICES OF SHINTO

  • Polytheistic
  • Worship of Kami
  • Prayers, offerings, and visiting Shrines

SALT

  • Saw salt as purifying substance
  • Judaism salt was indispensable to the Israelites
  • Shinto would use salt to cleanse themselves
