RULES OF THE SPORT

  • THE REALY INVOLVES 8 TEAMS OF 4 SKATERS EACH TEAM DECIDES FOR ITSELF THE NUMBER OF LAPS EACH ATHLETES AT A TIME
  • THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS THE LAST TWO LAPS MUST BE COVERED BY THE SAME SKATER
  • THE INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIONS INVOLVE 32 SKATERS 4 SKATERS AT A TIME

EVENTS OF THE SPORT

  • THE OLYMPIC RACES INCLUDE 500M,1000M,AND 1500M FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN
  • THE RELAY RACES INCLUDE 3000M FOR WOMAN AND 5000M FOR MEN

INTERESTING FACTS

  • SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING BEGAN IN CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES WERE THEY HELD MASS TO START COMPETITIONS ON AN OVAL TRACK AS EARLY AS 1905/06.
  • IN 1967 THE ISUZU DECLARES SHORT THACK SPEED SKATING AN OFFICAL SPORT BUT INTERNATIONAL WORLDWIDE COMPETITIONS ARE NOT HELD UNTIL 1976
  • AFTER HAVING BEEN A DEMONSTRATION SPORT AT THE 1988 GAMES IN CALGARY,SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING BECAME PART OF THE OLYMPICS PROGRAMME IN ALBERTVILLE IN 1992 WITH TWO INDIVIDUAL EVENTS AND TWO REALAYS
