A DISEASE WHERE THE RED BLOOD CELL IS SICKLE SHAPED,

HOW IS IT CONTRACTED

YOU ARE BORN WITH IT WHEN YOU GET SICKLE GENES FROM BOTH PARENTS.

WHO IS AFFECTED

SYMPTOMS

TREATMENTS

  • Opioid pain medications (ex.morphine)
  • Anti-inflammatory medications (ex.ibuprofen)
  • Antibiotics for infection
  • Intravenousor oral fluids

Outlook
People have a reduced life expectancy but with treatment you can live longer. The average life span in 1973 was 14 years now you can live into your 40's-50's

Blood and Marrow stem cell transplant can work well for treatment and in some cases provide a cure
