SICKLE CELL DISEASE

Sickle Cell is a genetic disease inherited from parents. There is a 25% chance that a child will be born with it from unaffected parents(USA)

What is it ?

Sickle cell disease mutates and turns red blood cells into a crescent shape.

This makes the afflicted more prone to virus and infection. They can suffer from both normal and silent strokes.

Is there a cure ?

No. However it can be treated. The live expectancy beyond the age of 50 is 65%. Infants with sickle cell are 80% likely to survive at birth due to modern care.

Conclusion

Sickle cell is bad.
