THE FOUNDER

JÖNS JACOB BERZELIUS

Facts about the founder

Berzelius was a Swedish Chemist who lived from 1779-1848. He is considered one of the founders of modern chemistry. He discovered silicon in 1824 by melting potassium chips in a silica beaker and washing away the residual by-products. In addition to silicon, he discovered selenium, thorium, and cerium.
