  • Metalloid but can have nonmetal characteristics depending on the element reacting with it
  • Texture: strong, hard but very delicate and breakable
  • Color: grey, shiny, metallic color
  • Melting point: 1,414*C
  • Boiling point: 3,265*C

HISTORY

  • Antoine Lavoisier was first to discover/identify silicon
  • When: 1787
  • Jöns Jakob Berzelius was noteworthy in isolating silicon to prove it as an element
  • When: 1824

HUMAN INTERACTION

  • Makes up 27.7% of earth's crust
  • Silicon can be found in sand
  • Today, people use sand to make glass and different construction materials
  • Silicon can even be found in human bones
